Just Forget It All

Hey Guys,

So this week I'm going to take a minute to discuss my the Subtle Mind Exercise.  This one started off a little different than Loving Kindness, where a male narrator explains the process of the mind before going into the exercise.  The main female narrator is the same from Loving Kindness and the sound of the ocean is again played on the frequent gaps of silence where the mind is supposed to focus on one particular thing.  Just like studies can show, it's obvious in daily practices that when I'm happy, I'm healthy, and when I'm sick, I'm unhappy, quite the vice versa role of physical and mental well being.  If I bog my mind down with negative thoughts, stress, and anger, I tend to get sick more often, feel tired and exhausted all the time, and leave no willpower or strength to eat right or exercise, which in turn makes my body unhealthy just like my mind.  I'm currently two weeks in a caffeine, nicotine, alcohol free lifestyle (that won't completely take caffeine/alcohol out but will significantly decrease the consumption) and I haven't felt better in years.  My basement gym is almost complete, so even if I get home at 8pm, I can still make 30 minutes to jump on the rower or throw a few weights around.  Even when I'm in a crap mood, I find that my super emotional state can be highly productive in a physically exerting environment.  Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and is preparing (without going broke) for the upcoming Yule, Christmas, New Years and others holidays.

  1. Hi Jess,
Great Blog post this week. That is just what I am talking about...trying to keep a positive attitude makes for a positive lifestyle and in turn a good "well-being."
I am as positive as they come, but I need a lot of practice with "me" time, not to forget meditaion.

  2. All I have to say is it must be nice to have a gym in your basement. I wish I could have a place like that. I just realized what you said that if you fill your mind you get sick more often. That is the same thing that happens to me. I too am fighting against nicotin, been alcohol free for about 2 1/2 yeas now.

  3. Hi Jess,
I can relate to what you're saying about how negative thoughts can add to stress and other health problems. I think we in the West have neglected true healing for far too long and I hope more and more people are able to achieve well-being by learning of integral health.

  4. Jessica-
Congrats on all of your changes toward a healthier lifestyle! I think that by reducing the negative things in our lives, we can make room to invite the more positive things in. Though I am a Starbuck's addict myself, there really isn't a comparison to the boost I feel during my day after a workout vs a latte...but my main problem is finding time to do it. I can run through the drive through for coffee, but a workout requires a trip to the gym, and clean up afterward. I often think that if I were a man it would be easier...just shower and move on.
I was writing to another blogger about a sick friend - she has tons of symptoms that are all related, but they can't find a cause. I wonder if she saw an Eastern Medicine doctor if they could help get to the root of her problem, as I don't think it's all physical. She is so down from all of the sickness and bad news, I think if she could lift herself spiritually and mentally she would feel a lot better. Also, focusing in might help her find out which is the main problem, and which ones are just catching a ride on all the negative energy!
Best of luck to you in your new lifestyle - I know you'll be an inspiration to others as well! Have a great week - Miranda
